A Youth Symposium on Creating Peace in Nepal

A Youth Symposium on Creating Peace in Nepal

Youth-led peace activism is essential for facilitating peaceful transition in post-conflict societies. Instilling compassion in the hearts of the next generation can foster a caring ethic determined to address social injustices.  In order to work toward this goal, with the generous support of Pax Christi International, Ban Landmines Campaign Nepal hosted A Youth Symposium on Creating Peace in Nepal.

The event featured six speakers discussing topics of critical importance to facilitating a peaceful future for Nepal while mainstreaming the vital role of youth in attaining solutions. Topics discussed at the event included landmines, environmental pollution, girls’ trafficking, the peace process, constitution-making process and impact of conflict on the youth. Over the course of the program, youth-to-youth peace engagement transpired with speakers presenting their topics with true passion and determination to connect with their audience. Their efforts were reciprocated by the youth in attendance consistently raising questions and sharing their perspectives. It was a wonderful exchange of ideas seeking to empower all parties to unite for the cause of peace.

Ban Landmines Campaign would like to thank both the speakers and participants for a positive program and extend our sincere appreciation to Pax Christi International for making the event possible. Let each one of us now having gained awareness and developed understanding take up the cause of creating peace in Nepal.
